You probably have climbed a ladder multiple times in your life, and you might not have worried too much about your safety, but did you know that falling off of ladders has proven deadly for many homeowners? Falls are a major cause of accidents in the home, and whenever you’re more than 6 feet above ground, the chance that injury or death is multiplied.
The first thing to consider when using a ladder is the surface on which it will rest. If it is soft, or if it is angled, your ladder won’t have a stable base which is very dangerous. Some ladders will adjust to be placed on an incline, but you should make sure that it is completely straight before climbing it.
You never should reach out far outside the limits of the ladder, since this could cause you to tip over. You should also make sure to always keep at least 3 points of contact with the ladder.
