We have the unique privilege of being able to watch hummingbirds. Hummingbirds can only be found in the Americas. Here are a few tips to help you to take care of your hummingbird feeders.
The first tip for your hummingbird feeder is to make your own hummingbird food. You do not need to buy expensive hummingbird food. You can make your own by heating up a solution of 1:4 parts sugar to water. Heat the solution until the sugar is dissolved, and then take the solution off the heat and allow it to cool. Then pour it into your feeder. You also do not need to add any food coloring to your solution.
Another tip is to clean your hummingbird feeder regularly. Try to clean your feeder once a week in cooler weather, and twice a week in hotter weather. It’s surprising how much mold and dirt your hummingbird feeder can collect, and this can be very dangerous for the hummingbirds and their babies. You can use a pipe cleaner or a bottle brush if you do not have a hummingbird cleaning brush.
These are just a few tips to help you to keep your hummingbird feeder clean and to keep the hummingbirds healthy.
